ASUS Notebooks

ASUS notebooks have been tested in the most punishing of conditions and the most exotic of locations. Many of these incredible feats have become the stuff of legend. We detail the accomplishments that have left an indelible mark on history here.

Zero defects in zero gravity

R&K, a major supplier of computers and electronic equipment for aeronautical missions into outer space, provided astronauts aboard the MIR Space Station with two ASUS notebooks. Both notebooks ran trouble-free throughout the 600-day stint in space.

"The ASUS notebooks never overheated like some of the ones made by other companies," said Russian cosmonaut Sergei Avdeev. “Thermal flow in space and on Earth is completely different. Only notebooks with the best heat dissipation solutions can survive continuous operation. We turned the notebooks on in the morning and left them on all day without a problem.”

Saving lives from the air

NRMA CareFlight, an emergency medical and rescue helicopter unit operating in New South Wales, Australia, uses ASUS notebooks across different sectors of its services. ASUS notebooks play a critical role in CareFlight’s program aimed at improving survival rates for accident victims suffering from severe head trauma. The mobile computing these notebooks lets CareFlight deliver a medical team on the scene faster than a local ambulance, and could reduce numbers of head trauma-related deaths by 33%.

"All our pilots have been very impressed with the ASUS M5 laptops and amazed at their ability to withstand the vibration of the aircraft, said CareFlight Community Relations Manager Mark Lees. “We are now ready to install ASUS M5 laptops in all our aircraft and link them to the onboard navigation computers."

Surviving the bumps and jumps of a grueling off-road rally

ASUS notebooks were put to extreme ends of the temperature scale during the PATAGONIA 2000 race, which traversed through hot deserts and snow-covered mountains. Tasked to serve as navigation devices, ASUS notebooks excelled thanks to their built-in GPS functionality and ability to display dynamic maps. They also served as tools of communication, providing email and bidirectional video conferencing. “Needless to say, ASUS computers survived the severe conditions of this strenuous voyage well, without a single flaw,” said race organizer Aviv Shweky.

On top of the world

An array of ASUS notebooks, which included the U5, S6 (both leather and bamboo editions), W7 and U1 were selected by a mountaineering team on an expedition to Mount Everest.

At base camp at an elevation of 5,000m above sea level, other notebooks failed to boot up because of the extremely low ambient temperature; but ASUS notebooks continued to operate. As a tribute to eco-friendly technology, expedition team leader Capt. Wang Yongfong took an ASUS U5 notebook with him to the peak. At 8,848m above sea-level, ASUS notebooks became the first in the world to reach the top of Mount Everest.

To the far reaches of the globe

Time and again ASUS notebooks have proven their mettle in the freezing temperatures of the North and South Poles.

On December 16, 2003, acclaimed mountaineers Shi Wang and Jian Liu embarked on an expedition to the summit of the 16,000ft Mount Vinson, the tallest peak in Antarctica, where temperatures were known to drop below -100˚F. The mountaineers brought along with them an ASUS S200N notebook to document their experiences. The S200N met their needs perfectly: it was lightweight and compact, had a large hard disk capacity and could handle the rigors of ascending a mountain.
